Registering a Merino Stud
Merino sheep breeders who are interested in registering a Merino stud should contact The Australian Merino Centre to obtain the form, Application to Register a Merino Stud for inclusion in the Australian Stud Merino Flock Register (the ‘Application’) or print a form from this website.

Requirements for Registration
- The minimum requirement to register a Merino stud is fifty (50) stud ewes that have been purchased, leased or transferred from a registered stud,or an inspection of ewes for upgrade from flock to stud status can be conducted by two Councillors upon request.
- The minimum requirement to register a Poll Merino stud is fifty (50) stud ewes purchased, leased or transferred from a registered stud and a registered Poll Merino ram or semen from a registered Poll Merino ram.
- Vendor and Purchaser (VP) Certificates must be presented for all rams or ewes purchased for registration. If an applicant does not have a VP, this must be obtained from the vendor and attached to the application form. (See Responsibilities section for further details).
- The Application includes a Statutory Declaration which is to be completed before a Justice of the Peace.
- Flocks proposed for membership of the NSW SMBA must be accredited by NSW Agriculture as Ovine Brucellosis Free, or if in the process of being accredited, the first test must be successfully completed with a negative result, before the application can be accepted.
- In order to avoid delay, a copy of the Accreditation Certificate should be included with the Application.
- A Membership Entrance Fee of $165 and Annual Subscription of $220 are payable being $385 in total. This includes the State Levy paid to the AASMB. However, if an application is made after 30th June, the initial Annual Subscription is reduced to $110, being $275 in total. All fees are quoted inclusive of GST and should be forwarded with your completed application form. A Tax Invoice will be sent to you with the registration details once the application has been processed.

In compliance with GST legislation, Recipient Created Tax Invoices (RCTI) are used and it is a requirement that an agreement with the NSW SMBA be entered into by each member requiring a Tax Invoice, to claim the input tax charged on membership fees and levies. Documentation in this regard is also included with the Application.
