    The Merino community mourns the loss of Alan Joseph McCormack of Walwa Merino Stud, Gurrundah who passed away on 26 March 2025, aged 76.

    Born into a Merino breeding family, Alan’s father was a passionate fine wool breeder and passed this interest down to him.
    In his early days, Alan lived at “Bellview”, Royalla, Australian Capital Territory, where he ran a quality superfine/ fine flock.
    As a young Merino breeder, Alan’s ability to select good sheep was recognised early and he was always in demand to judge.

    NSW SMBA wishes to acknowledge David Milthorpe's contribution to the Merino industry.

    Vale - David Milthorpe

    Jerilderie stud Merino breeder David Milthorpe of Somerset Merino stud passed away on 28 February 2025, aged 100.

    David Milthorpe was born on 12 September 1924. He lived on a farm near Narrandera until he was 11 years old when his father purchased the property “Somerset”, near Jerilderie.
    The Somerset Merino stud, F. No. 484, was founded by David’s father, Mr D.B. Milthorpe in 1920.

    NSW SMBA wishes to acknowledge John Doak's contribution to the Merino industry.

    Vale - John Doak

    New England stud Merino breeder John Doak of Emoh Ruo Merino Stud, Bundarra passed away on 17 July 2024, aged 75. 

    Many years spent in the shearing sheds gave John a strong appreciation of wool as a fibre and a passion for breeding Merino sheep.

    John was the eldest son of Fred and Jean Doak of Boxmoor, Bundarra. He took up shearing and wool classing after finishing high school.
